• New Undergraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Prepares Undergraduates for the Innovation Ecosystem

  The Ivan Allen College School of Public Policy at Georgia Tech has established a new undergraduate certificate program in Intellectual Property (IP). The IP Certificate Program coincides with multi-dimensional efforts to strengthen Metropolitan Atlanta’s innovation eco-system. 

  

• Public Policy Doctoral Student Mistur Has Article Published in the ‘Review of Energy Research and Social Science’

  Evan Mistur, a third-year doctoral student in the School of Public Policy, has his single-authored article titled “Health and Energy Preferences: Rethinking the Social Acceptance of Energy Systems in the United States” published in the Review of Energy Research and Social Science (an Elsevier journal).

• Husbands Fealing Recognized as Trailblazer by National Medical Association Council on Concerns of Women Physicians

  Kaye Husbands Fealing, chair of the School of Public Policy was awarded the 2017 National Medical Association Council on Concerns of Women Physicians’ (CCWP) Trailblazer Award on July 30, 2017, in Philadelphia. This award is given to an individual who has made significant achievements in medicine science and/or to issues of women’s health. 

  

• Georgia Tech’s EarSketch Team Receives 2017 NCWIT Engagement Excellence Award

  Georgia Tech’s EarSketch project has been selected for a 2017 National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) Engagement Excellence Award. The award recognizes contribution to the computer science education community and to efforts to broaden participation in computing through excellent pedagogy and curriculum.

  Richard Utz held the 2017 Johann von Spix Professorship at the University of Bamberg, Germany, this summer and was honored by the university for his achievements in international research in medievalism.

• Borenstein Delivers Presentation on Self-Driving Cars and Ethics

  Jason Borenstein, director of Graduate Research Ethics Programs and associate director of the Center for Ethics and Technology, presented on the ethical responsibilities engineers have related to the design and use of a self-driving car at the annual meeting of the National Society of Professional Engineers that took place on July 19 - 23, 2017.

  After a long and competitive search, Georgia Tech and the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts announced a new director of development, Keatley Scroggins. 

  

• Goodman Speaks on Atlanta’s Civil War Trials and Resilience at City Hall

  On June 13, Regents’ Professor Seymour Goodman spoke at City Hall on Atlanta’s trials and resilience during and immediately after the Civil War. The presentation was hosted by the Atlanta Mayor’s Office for Resilience.

• Georgia Tech Army War College Alumnus and Nunn School Professor Brief Defense Community on Preventing WMD Proliferation

  Former Georgia Tech Army War College Fellow, U.S. Army Colonel Lonnie Carlson and Nunn School Associate Professor Margaret E. Kosal jointly presented to the defense community on “Preventing Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation — Leveraging Special Operations Forces to Shape the Environment.”

  

• Students in Japan Program Solve Real World Problems in Sustainability

  July 5, 2017

  The 10-week Japan Summer Program, which is generously funded by The Coca-Cola Foundation and Georgia Tech’s Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain, allows students to study sustainable development in Tokyo. This program provides students with the opportunities to solve real world problems in sustainability. Brian Woodall, professor from the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs is the program director.

  

• Borenstein Appointed Editorial Board Leader for NAE Research Ethics Center

  Jason Borenstein, director of Georgia Tech’s Graduate Research Ethics Programs and associate director of the Center for Ethics and Technology in the Ivan Allen College School of Public Policy, has been appointed editor for the Research Ethics section of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) Online Ethics Center. 

  

• Kosal Participates in Halcyon Dialogue on Robotics and Autonomy

  Nunn School Associate Professor Margaret E. Kosal recently participated in a closed-door discussion on emerging legal, legislative, and security issues at the intersection of robotics, autonomy, machine learning, and policy. Kosal spoke on the strategic role for robotics and autonomous systems in national and international security, including for deterrence. 

  

• Ivan Allen College Graduate Students Participate in Annual Polish President Internship

  June 28, 2017

  Six Georgia Tech graduate students, five from the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, were among only 10 graduate students selected from across the United States to participate in the first annual Polish President Internship during May 24 to June 4, 2017.
