Smith Awarded Henry Wallace Prize for Best Book in Agricultural History

A new scholarship for the Navy Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (NROTC) at Georgia Tech honors George Robert Henderson, Sr., a veteran of the United States Navy and native of Newnan, Georgia. Inaugural recipients of the scholarship are undergraduate students Rebekah Day and Anthony Guidera.

Poultry Salmonella Project Wins Capstone Expo Policy Category

Farmaceuticals, a senior design project addressing salmonella incidence in humans through poultry feed and sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), took the top honor in the public policy category during the Spring 2015 Capstone Design Expo held Thursday, April 23, in McCamish Pavilion.

Macrakis Awarded Wilson Center Fellowship

Kristie Macrakis, professor in the School of History, Technology, and Society, has been named a recipient of a prestigious fellowship from the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. She and 18 other recipients were selected, through a rigorous process including three separate review panels, out of a highly competitive pool of more than 300 applicants.

Powering Up: Valerie Thomas Featured in Georgia Tech Research Horizons

New materials and technologies aren't the only ways to address energy storage challenges. Valerie Thomas (Public Policy) notes that power management, an aspect that doesn't often get much attention, has the potential to greatly impact the way we apppproach power use and storage. Thomas is studying how a high adoption rate for electric vehicles would affect the cost of various sources of electricity. Among the findings: Controlling when vehicles are charged could reduce the cost of electricity for the entire power system

Mitchell Appointed to New FCC Committee

Helena Mitchell has been appointed to serve on a newly formed committee of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The Disability Advisory Committee will provide advice and recommendations to the Commission on a wide array of disability matters within the jurisdiction of the Commission and facilitate the participation of people with disabilities in proceedings before the Commission.
