• How Regional Development and Economic Incentives Are Changing

  Jennifer Clark, associate professor of public policy at Georgia Tech, co-edits a new book on significant changes happening in the development of cities and regions. In the book, authors from universities around the world explore the shift in global power toward economies in the East, the impact of immigration on economies, and the consequences of urbanization.

  

• Iran Nuclear Deal Withdrawal “Terribly Misguided,” says Sam Nunn School of International Affairs Scholar

  The decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal “is terribly misguided and cedes all the leverage to Iran,” said Rachel Whitlark, an expert in global nuclear politics and international security at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

  

• Sam Nunn Security Fellows Program Edited Volume Published by Springer

  Margaret Kosal, associate professor in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, had an edited volume titled, Technology and the Intelligence Community: Challenges and Advances for the 21st Century published by Springer Publishing as part of its Advanced Sciences and Technologies for Security Applications book series (ASTSA).

  

• Orman Receives 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award

  Kelly Orman, alumnus in the School of Economics at Georgia Institute of Technology, was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award (DAA) on Wednesday, March 28, at the Historic Academy of Medicine. The awards celebrate excellence in the College community by honoring outstanding graduates of the College, current undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty, as well as our friends and supporters.

  

• Aquatic Connectivity Team Wins Best Public Policy Design at Capstone Expo

  On Tuesday, April 24, two Public Policy Student teams competed in the Georgia Tech’s 2018 spring Capstone Design Expo. The award for the Best Public Policy project went to the Aquatic Connectivity Team of Charles Lucas, Victoria Inman, Victoria Doris, and Sarah Saltiel, all senior public policy majors.

  

• Regional Studies Appoints Clark as New Deputy-Editor-in Chief

  Jennifer Clark, associate professor in the Georgia Tech School of Public Policy, was appointed as deputy editor-in-chief for the flagship journal Regional Studies (RS) as of May 1.  The distinctive purpose of RS is to systematically connect insights from the different disciplines to help understand region and city evolution at a subnational level.

• Sung Receives NSF Grant for Dissertation Research

  Elie Sung, doctoral student in the Georgia Tech School of Public Policy, was recently awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) Dissertation Improvement grant presented by the Science of Science and Innovation Policy (SciSIP) program. Her research focuses on how firms and the courts jointly shape patent policy and how in turn these policies have heterogeneous impacts on the innovation of firms.  

  

• Ivan Allen College Celebrates Faculty and Staff Achievements at Spring Luncheon

  The Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts Spring Faculty and Staff Recognition Luncheon was held on April 17, 2018. Dean Jacqueline Royster recognized the accomplishments of the College throughout the year, and highlighted that this is the 130th Year of Liberal Arts at Georgia Institute of Technology.

• Public Policy Distinguished Alumna Honored by the Georgia State Senate

  In the final days of this year’s Georgia legislative session, the Georgia State Senate passed a resolution “Recognizing and commending Melody DeBussey for receiving a Georgia Tech Distinguished Alumni Award and for other purposes.”

  

• HSOC Hosts Successful Networking Night

  April 30, 2018

  The School of History and Sociology (HSOC) at the Georgia Institute of Technology hosted a successful networking night on Friday, April 20, from 5:30 -7:30 p.m. in room 104 of the Old Civil Engineering Building. All alums and current students (graduate and undergraduate) from HSOC were invited.

  

• Ivan Allen College Supports Inspirational Figures Exhibit

  April 30, 2018

  The Inspirational Figures exhibit, produced by the Creative/Career Origination Lab (the CoLab) and sponsored by the Georgia Tech Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, is a six-poster per-series exhibition concept that came from the notion of students helping students — supporting each other in seeing positive outcomes and finding inspiration in the midst of struggle with mental illness or other life hardships. 

  

• Ross to Receive National Advising Award; Suarez and Ross Honored at the 2018 Georgia Tech Faculty and Staff Honors Luncheon

  April 30, 2018

  Leslie Ross, academic program manager in the Georgia Tech School of Public Policy, and Maria Lourdes Suarez, administrative professional in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, were both honored with awards at the 2018 Faculty and Staff Honors Luncheon on Wednesday, April 11. Ross has also been selected as a 2018 Outstanding Advising Award Winner in the Primary Advising category by the Global Community for Academic Advising (NACADA).

  

• Ivan Allen College Well Represented at Human Factors in Computing Conference

  Georgia Institute of Technology science fiction scholar Lisa Yaszek will be featured on the upcoming AMC program, James Cameron’s Story of Science Fiction — a new series from the director of blockbusters such as Avatar, Alien, and The Terminator.
