Posted October 22, 2017
German Day 2017 highlighted the importance of the language to the Georgia Tech community. The event also introduced students to the benefits and requirements of the German program.
A large crowd of students stopped by the German table hosted by the School of Modern Languages on Skiles Walkway. They had the opportunity to talk with both faculty and students about the program and the opportunities for studying and interning abroad.
During the afternoon event, Jacqueline Royster, dean of the Ivan Allen College, and Anna Westerstahl Stenport, chair of the School of Modern Languages, welcomed guests, speakers, and students.
A letter from German General Consul Detlev Rünger to Georgia Tech students was read and members of the German faculty shared information about the German program and elaborated on the importance of studying the language and going abroad. The event also featured a panel consisting of Patrick Wallace (Georgia Department of Education), Marshall Sanders (The Halle Foundation), Barry Spurlock (The Gail and Barry Spurlock Foundation,) and Michael Göttert (Auslandsschulwesen), spoke about their experiences with German in their professional and personal lives.
