TechWrites: Faculty Support to Enhance Student Writing

What Is TechWrites?
Under the auspices of the Provost’s Teaching and Learning Grant, and with the support of the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Office of Undergraduate Education, the Communication Center is pleased to host TechWrites, a yearlong series of events to support instructors working with undergraduate writers across disciplines.
Activities will include:
- Targeted lunchtime workshops that address common areas of interest for instructors across campus
- Reading day institutes in which participants will focus on enhancing student writing in one of their course preps
- Featured speaker Neal Lerner, co-author of The Meaningful Writing Project and Learning to Communicate in Science and Engineering and author of The Idea of a Writing Laboratory
- Student and faculty surveys to incorporate faculty feedback into future programing
Faculty Input Needed
To best meet campus needs, we are currently requesting faculty input in a brief survey about how we can best support their work with our undergraduates. The survey takes 10 minutes or less, and your input will directly shape the support you and your students receive.
Upcoming Events
The first workshop, “Getting Better Student Writing (Without Working Harder)” will take place Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 11 a.m. to noon in the Communication Center (Clough 447) and via Zoom. Register now to attend.

- Workshop #2: Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, noon – 1:30 p.m.
- Neal Lerner lecture /workshop: Tuesday, March 4, 2025, time TBA
- Workshop #3: Wednesday, March 26, 2025, noon – 1:30 p.m.
- Spring TechWrites Institute: Wednesday, April 23, 2025, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Clough 447
