Mimosas, Scholars, and Ivan Allen: Ivan Allen College Welcomes Alumni Back for Homecoming Week

Posted November 2, 2021

Rain showers did not stop Georgia Tech from celebrating Homecoming this past weekend and bringing alumni together to reconnect and cheer on the Yellow Jackets.

Alumni, faculty, staff and students of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts braved a brisk fall morning to enjoy some football and share in Tech traditions. The College held a mimosa brunch for homecoming, while the School of Economics hosted a breakfast for its alumni to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the school.

Earlier in the week, the College hosted cherished alumnus Col. Stephen C. Hall, IM 1967, and is wife, Mrs. Pamela Hall during the annual Hall’s scholar breakfast. The couple met with recipients of the scholarships they set up in honor of their commitment to support the mission of the College.

“We started many years ago with one small scholarship and now here we are today,” Col. Hall said. “When you can give a little, that’s good. When you can give a lot, it’s even better.”

The Halls’ scholarships have funded the education of 15 students, including 12 from Georgia Tech and three from Spelman.

In addition to the breakfast that Monday, the College also held a dedication for the new Ivan Allen Jr. commemorative exhibit. Located in the College’s Dean’s Office, the exhibit walks through the political career of Ivan Allen Jr., former mayor of Atlanta from 1900 to 1900 and the College’s namesake.

The exhibit speaks to Allen Jr.’s shift in political ideology and push for racial equality in the city of Atlanta. The dedication was attended by the Col. And Mrs. Hall, who helped fund the exhibit and provide recommendation for the design, as well as the descendants of Allen Jr. and friends of the College.
