Dean Kaye Husbands Fealing Honored With Outstanding Women Of Color Impact Award

Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts Dean Kaye Husbands Fealing was recently honored for her efforts to advance diversity in the workplace for women. She received the 2021 Outstanding Women of Color Faculty Impact Award at the Women of Color City-Wide Awards Celebration on Sept. 26.

Presented by the Women of Color Initiative (WOCI) Atlanta Collaborative in Higher Education, Husbands Fealing earned one of four awards recognizing students, faculty, staff, and community leaders who have contributed to policy reform, advocacy, or academia to create an inclusive environment committed to addressing the disparities and challenges faced by women.

“To be recognized by my colleagues as an Outstanding Woman of Color in higher education is a terrific honor,” said Husbands Fealing. “I am guided by a personal commitment to empower students, faculty, and staff in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts to strive to achieve their personal goals and lead with purpose to impact the lives of those they encounter each day.”

Husbands Fealing’s research in diversity, equity, and inclusion has centered on the underrepresentation of women and minorities in STEM fields and the workforce. She has served on the American Economic Association’s Committee on the Status of Women in the Economic Profession and was awarded the 2017 Trailblazer Award from the National Medical Association Council on Concerns of Women Physicians. She most recently co-authored an article for the American Journal of Sociology examining the underlying process at federal science agencies that create gender pay gaps.

Husbands Fealing is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, an Elected Fellow of both the National Academy of Public Administration and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). She also serves on the AAAS Executive Board. 

The WOCI Atlanta Collaborative in Higher Education is a citywide strategic partnership between the Office of Minority Educational Development (OMED) at Georgia Tech, the Center for Women at Emory, the Office of Racial and Cultural Engagement at Emory, the Spelman College Women Research and Resource Center, STEM Atlanta Women, Inc., and the Women’s Resource Center at Georgia Tech.

The group seeks to promote the advancement of women in industry, research, and higher education through a variety of approaches including advocacy, leadership development, and cultural awareness.
