Larry Rubin, associate professor in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, has been named a 2021 Templeton Fellow in National Security by the Foreign Policy Research Institute.
Rubin, who has served in the U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense for Policy, is a national security expert focusing on Middle East politics, nuclear proliferation, and terrorism, as well as Islamic movements. He was also recently named co-editor of Terrorism and Political Violence, the leading journal in terrorism studies.
“Being selected as a 2021 Templeton Fellow is an honor and important opportunity for greater engagement in the field of emerging technology and national security policy,” Rubin said.
Rubin’s involvement with FPRI began when he guest-edited a special issue for their flagship journal, Orbis on “Emerging Technology and National Security,” in Fall 2020. He also wrote articles for Orbis.
The Foreign Policy Research Institute is an international policy think tank that aims to produce nonpartisan policy analysis on foreign policy and national security challenges the U.S. faces while educating the American public.
One of his first actions as fellow will be speaking at “Small Satellite Proliferation, Advanced Technologies, and Their Security Implications” on June 1, 2021, at 11 a.m. The event will focus on the uncontrolled re-entry of China’s rocket on May 9, 2021. Mariel Borowitz, associate professor in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, also will be speaking.
The Nunn School is a unit of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.
