Posted April 15, 2021
Kathrin Köppe, who has worked as a German lecturer in the School of Modern Languages since 2006, has been promoted to senior lecturer, effective August 1, 2021. The promotion recognizes her strengths as an instructor, emphasizing inter- and cross-cultural learning, sustainability studies, and career advancement.
Köppe has worked as a full-time lecturer at the School since 2013. She has served as coordinator of the introductory German sequence for four years, providing leadership for ongoing curriculum development. In this capacity, she has also coordinated course offerings and schedules while advising students on pathways through the German curriculum and ways to double-major with a STEM degree. Recently, Köppe designed an immersive introductory faculty-led study abroad program in Vienna, which the School hopes to launch in summer 2022.
“The School of Modern Languages is home to an exceptional group of faculty educators whose work advances key Georgia Tech strategic priorities in educating cross-culturally competent global leaders,” said Anna Stenport, chair of the School of Modern Languages. “We are thrilled that the efforts of continuing professional development and the commitment to student success demonstrated by Kathrin’s numerous accomplishments over many years has now been officially recognized through the promotion to senior lecturer.”
Köppe graduated from Rostock University in Rostock, Germany, with a bachelor’s degree in German linguistics and literature. She worked for four years as a German language instructor at the National University of Singapore and taught at the Foreign Language Center of the Ministry of Education in Singapore. After she obtained a certificate in teaching English as a Second Language and a master’s in applied linguistics at Concordia University in Montreal, she moved to Paris, where she taught business English at the French car manufacturer Renault.
Köppe is Ivan Allen College’s second senior lecturer since the non-tenure-track promotion process was established. She joins Lionel Gall, also from the School of Modern Languages.
The School of Modern Languages is a unit of Georgia Tech’s Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.
