Vikrant Kamble, a 3rd year Ph.D. student in the GT School of Economics, was selected to participate in the 2020 Berkeley/Sloan Summer School in Environmental and Energy Economics program.
The program is hosted by Professor Maximilian Auffhammer. The goal of the summer program is to provide doctoral students nationwide with an overview of the most important and current topics in various areas of the fields of environmental and energy economics. It is designed to help early-career students identify promising dissertation projects.
This year’s program consists of ten (remote) lectures by some of the most prominent economists in the fields of Environmental and Energy Economics, including John List (U. of Chicago), Meredith Fowlie (U.C. Berkeley), Koichiro Ito (U. of Chicago), and Wolfram Schlenker (Columbia).
Kamble was one of only ten select participants (drawn from a national applicant pool) to receive a $500 fellowship, awarded for his research proposal “Do women manage sustainable growth? Evidence from the Indian local body representation system.” In this continuing study, which will comprise part of his dissertation research, Kamble evaluates one of the most ambitious political representation programs in India and its impact on biodiversity.
"I just want to say thank you to UC Berkeley and Professor Maximilian Auffhammer for inviting me to the summer program and Assistant Professor, Dylan Brewer, for encouraging me to apply. It’s a great opportunity to meet and learn from leading economists in a progressive and growing field" said Kamble.
