Posted June 22, 2020
The Bureau of Labor Statistics has selected Dr. Christine Ries to serve a three-year term as a member of their Data Users Advisory Committee (DUAC).
The DUAC is a discretionary federal advisory committee established by the Secretary of Labor to present advice and make recommendations to the BLS on the points of view of data users from various sectors of the U.S. economy, including the labor, business, research, academic, and government communities. Prior to nomination, DUAC candidates are selected from the pool of nominated applicants who demonstrate their extensive knowledge and use of the data collected, analyzed, and disseminated by the BLS. Up to 20 members are appointed by BLS and approved by the Secretary.
The Committee is subject to the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) and reports to the BLS Commissioner. From the Charter of the Committee, its members are “…responsible for providing the Commissioner of Labor Statistics: (1) the priorities of data users; (2) suggestions concerning the addition of new programs, changes in the emphasis of existing programs or cessation of obsolete programs; and (3) advice on potential innovations in data analysis, dissemination, and presentation.” More information about the BLS DUAC can be found here.
