Students Connect with Delta, The Carter Center, and More at Ivan Allen College Career Fair
Posted March 25, 2019
On Tuesday, March 5, Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts students attended the Georgia Institute of Technology’s liberal arts career fair, which included prominent employers such as Delta Air Lines, SunTrust Bank, The Carter Center, AKQA Atlanta, Hannon Hill, and Infosys.
Thanks to the support of Ivan Allen College faculty & staff, the College’s Student Advisory Board, and the Center for Career Discovery and Development (C2D2), the career fair was well-attended, and plans are underway to host a similar career fair this fall.
The event was designed to provide students with the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with companies while learning about their potential career offerings. The format for the event was conversational as students rotated in small groups between the employer representatives. Students were provided with enough time to introduce themselves to recruiters while hearing valuable input and feedback from their peers sitting at the same table.
Overall, 44 students attended and conversed with the six firms. The event was also notable as it showcased the value these employers see in liberal arts students.
“As a whole, once employers discover the transferability of liberal arts students’ skills, they become interested,” C2D2 Senior Director Andrea Comsa said. “Our job is to make that connection and continue educating employers about the versatility and inherent worth of liberal arts majors.”
Comsa noted that initial student feedback was positive, and that recruiters were still speaking to students after the event had formally ended. While not the first networking or career event for liberal arts, this career event was the first and most well-attended in several years.
Event organizers are currently incorporating student and employer feedback to inform the design of the next Ivan Allen College career fair.
