Congratulations to Bruce McEver for New Book Release
Posted November 6, 2017
Congratulations to Bruce McEver (IE 1966) on the release of his new book of poetry, Like Lesser Gods (C&S Press). An Exclusive Evening with Bruce McEver was held on Friday, October 27, 2017, at the National Arts Club in New York City.
McEver is founder and chairman of Berkshire Capital and a member of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts Advisory Board. He is a strong supporter and friend to the College, endowing the McEver Chair in Poetry, the McEver Professorship of Engineering and the Liberal Arts, and the Leadership and Multifaith Program.
Like Lesser Gods explores themes of loss in a way that deals with the mortality of personal relationships, the realization and search for deeper meaning. The poems are traditional and contemporary, but a strong reminder of what’s important in a quickly changing world.
McEver graduated from Georgia Tech in the 1960's armed with an Industrial Engineering degree and a love of poetry that grew out of a class with then English Professor James Dean Young, who had taught at Georgia Tech for 28 years. McEver endowed the McEver Chair so that the School of Literature, Media, and Communication in the Ivan Allen College can bring a top writer to campus each year.
In 1983, McEver founded Berkshire Capital, pioneering the concept of providing independent merger, acquisition, and strategic advisory services for investment managers and securities firms. As chairman, he directs the long-term strategy and business development efforts of Berkshire Capital while also maintaining long-standing client relationships.
Prior to founding Berkshire Capital, McEver served as the assistant to the chairman of Paine Webber Group for mergers and acquisitions. He was vice president for mergers and acquisitions with Blyth Eastman Dillon. McEver began his career as a venture capital analyst at Bessemer Securities and was in corporate finance at Chemical Bank.
