We Remember Public Policy Major Neil Prasad

Posted December 16, 2016

Ivan Allen College undergraduate student Neil Prasad passed away suddenly on December 9, 2016.

A Public Policy major, Neil was a highly accomplished student, a Stamps President’s Scholar, and a former research assistant at GTRI. He also dedicated much of his time and energy to local and overseas volunteer programs to help build a future for others.

Dean Jacqueline Royster expressed condolences on behalf of the College.

“Neil embodied the spirit and values of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts,” said Dean Jacqueline Royster. “We are deeply saddened by this loss and our hearts go out, especially to the Prasad family, and to those students, friends, staff, and faculty who knew Neil well.”

RIchard Barke, associate professor and director of Undergraduate Studies in the School of Public Policy shared these reflections.

“Neil was a public policy major with an intense interest in public health. A native of California, he had interned at Stanford University with a professor in research on the economics of the distribution of medical benefits, and served on a student advisory panel for his congresswoman. He volunteered for two summers with a program for poor children in Bangalore, India, and was working on an entrepreneurial extracurricular project with Emory University to provide mobile health care in poor communities. Neil thrived on analyzing problems and finding implementable solutions. He was curious, productive, focused, and willing to take risks. The School of Public Policy and Georgia Tech will miss him greatly.”

May Neil's family and friends find comfort during this time of sorrow.
