Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts Students at the State Capitol

Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts students have a strong presence at the State Capitol.

Four of the eight Georgia Tech interns working at the Gold Dome for this spring’s Georgia Legislative Internship Program (GLIP), are students in the Ivan Allen College. The students work full time as interns to legislators, legislative committees, or legislative offices.

The Ivan Allen GLIP interns are:

Renee Dodson
Hometown: Fayetteville, Georgia
Major: International Affairs and Modern Languages
GLIP assignment: Senate Health and Human Services Committee

Victoria Doris
Hometown: Newnan, Georgia
Major: Public Policy
GLIP assignment: House Media Services

Evan Long
Hometown: Lilburn, Georgia
Major: International Affairs
GLIP assignment: Office of Senate Majority Whip Steve Gooch (R-51)

Hunter Tredway
Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia
Major: Public Policy
GLIP assignment: Senate Science and Technology Committee

School of Public Policy students were among the more than 70 Georgia Tech undergraduates who participated in Georgia Tech at the Capitol Day on February 1. This was an opportunity for the students to meet with lawmakers and observe legislative processes. 

Public policy alumna Merry Hunter Hipp (2013) who is the education policy advisor at the office of Governor Nathan Deal, and Leslie Ross, academic advisor for the School of Public Policy, met with current students Regan Johnson, Mary Elizabeth Burke, Darryl Terry, Laura Margaret Burbach, Jennifer Abrams, Sean Hodell, David Hunter Treadway, Sara Dada, Megan Haley, and Sophie Dumas.

The Day was co-sponsored by the Georgia Tech Student Government Association and the Office of Government and Community Relations with the goal of raising awareness of our students and the Institute’s impact on the state. Georgia Tech alumni Representative Bert Reeves and Senator P.K. Martin hosted resolutions in the House and Senate chambers to honor Georgia Tech’s student leaders.
